1. Learning-Based Joint Antenna Selection and Precoding Design for Cell-Free MIMO Networks

Abstract

This paper considers a downlink cell-free multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) network in which multiple multi-antenna base stations (BSs) serve multiple users via coherent joint transmission. In order to reduce the energy consumption by radio frequency components, each BS selects a subset of antennas for downlink data transmission after estimating the channel state information (CSI). We aim to maximize the sum spectral efficiency by jointly optimizing the antenna selection and precoding design. To alleviate the fronthaul overhead and enable real-time network operation, we propose a distributed scalable machine learning algorithm. In particular, at each BS, we deploy a convolutional neural network (CNN) for antenna selection and a graph neural network (GNN) for precoding design. Different from conventional centralized solutions that require a large amount of CSI and signaling exchange among the BSs, the proposed distributed machine learning algorithm takes only locally estimated CSI as input. With well-trained learning models, it is shown that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the distributed baseline schemes and achieves a sum spectral efficiency comparable to its centralized counterpart., Comment: This work has been submitted to the IEEE for possible publication. 2. Analytic Network Traffic Prediction Based on User Behavior Modeling

Abstract

This paper proposes an interpretable user-behavior-based (UBB) network traffic prediction (NTP) method. Based on user behavior, a weekly traffic demand profile can be naturally sorted into three categories, i.e., weekday, Saturday, and Sunday. For each category, the traffic pattern is divided into three components which are mainly generated in three time periods, i.e., morning, afternoon, and evening. Each component is modeled as a normal-distributed signal. Numerical results indicate the UBB NTP method matches the practical wireless traffic demand very well. Compared with existing methods, the proposed UBB NTP method improves the computational efficiency and increases the predictive accuracy., Comment: This paper has been submitted to IEEE Networking Letters for possible publications

21. Dietary trace mineral pattern influences gut microbiota and intestinal health of broilers

Abstract

Dietary trace minerals can impact gut flora, which can further affect intestinal health. However, the dietary balance pattern of trace minerals for the intestinal health of broilers needs to be explored. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of the dietary pattern of Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Se on the intestinal morphology, microbiota, short-chain fatty acid concentrations, antioxidant status, and the expression of tight junction proteins in broilers. A total of 240 1-d-old Arbor Acres male broilers were randomly assigned to one of five treatments with six replicate cages of eight birds per cage for each treatment. The birds were fed the corn-soybean meal basal diet supplemented with five combination patterns of trace minerals for 42 d. The dietary treatments were as follows: the inorganic sources were added to the diet based on the recommendations of the current National Research Council (NRC, T1) and Ministry of Agriculture of P.R. China (MAP) (T2) for broiler chicks, respectively; the inorganic sources were added to the diet at the levels based on our previous results of inorganic trace mineral requirements for broilers (T3); the organic sources were added to the diet at the levels considering the bioavailabilities of organic trace minerals for broilers described in our previous studies (T4); and the organic sources were added to the diet based on the recommendations of the current MAP for broiler chicks (T5). The results showed that broilers from T1 had lower (P < 0.05) crypt depth (CD), and a higher (P < 0.05) villus height: CD in duodenum on day 21 and lower CD (P < 0.05) in jejunum on day 42 than those from T3 and T4. Broilers from T1, T3, and T5 had a higher (P < 0.05) Shannon index in cecum on day 21 than those from T4. Broilers from T1 had a higher (P < 0.05) abundance of Lactobacillusin ileum on day 21 than those from T2 and T3. Broilers from T1, T2, and T5 had a higher (P< 0.05) valeric acid concentrations in cecum on day 42 than those from T3 and T4. In addition, Birds from T2 had higher (P < 0.05) Claudin-1mRNA levels in jejunum on day 42 than those from T3 and T4. And birds from T3, T4, and T5 had a higher (P < 0.05) Occludin protein expression levels in duodenum on day 42 than those from T2. These results indicate that dietary pattern of Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Se influenced gut flora and intestinal health of broilers, and the appropriate pattern of Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Se in the diet for intestinal health of broilers would be Cu 12 mg, Fe 229 mg, Mn 81 mg, Zn 78 mg, and Se 0.24 mg/kg (1 to 21 d of age), and Cu 11 mg, Fe 193 mg, Mn 80 mg, Zn 73 mg, and Se 0.22 mg/kg (22 to 42 d of age), when the trace minerals as inorganic sources were added to diets according to the recommendations of the current NRC.The results from the present study demonstrated that the dietary appropriate pattern of Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Se for intestinal health of broilers would be Cu 12 mg, Fe 229 mg, Mn 81 mg, Zn 78 mg, and Se 0.24 mg/kg (1 to 21 d of age), and Cu 11 mg, Fe 193 mg, Mn 80 mg, Zn 73 mg, and Se 0.22 mg/kg (22 to 42 d of age), when the trace minerals as inorganic sources were added to diets according to the recommendations of the current National Research Council.Information is still scarce regarding the effect of dietary trace mineral patterns on the intestinal health of broilers. Our results provided scientific experimental bases for improving intestinal health of broilers by nutritional strategy.

22. Diagnostic value of serum cystatin C and urotensin II for hepatorenal syndrome in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the relation of serum cystatin C ( CysC ) and urotensin II ( uII ) levels with presence of hepatorena syndrome in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis to determine the diagnostic potential for these serum makers in order to facilitate ealy detection of hepatorenal syndrome at subclinica stages. Methods A total of 50 patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis were recruited for study ad divided into three groups according to creatinine elimination rate (Ccr) : simple liver cirhosis, ≽80 ml/min (n =22); subclinica hepatorena syndrome, 40≼SCcr <80 ml/min (n = 19); ad hepatorena syndrome, =≼40 ml/min (n =9). Fifteen heathy individuas were recruited for use as controls. Fasting blood samples were coHected from al cases ad controls for measurements of aanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspatate aminotransferase (AST), total bile acid (TBA), abumin (Alb), serum creatinine (Scr), CysC, ad uII. For normally distributed data, single -factor aaysis was carried out by One - Way ANOVA and parwise compaisons were carried out by the Student's t - test; for non - normaly distributed data, the Kruskall - Walis H test ad Man - Whitney U test were used, respectively. Correlation aalysis was caried out with the Spearma's rank correlation coefficient. Diagnostic accuracy was assessed by generating a receiver operating characteristic ( ROC ) curve ad using the aea under the curve (AUC) to select the optimal threshold for diagnosing subclinica hepatorenal syndrome ad hepatorena syndrome in patients with decompensated liver cirhosis. Results Compaed to the heathy controls, the cirhosis cases had significatly higher levels of ALT, AST, TBA, ALB, Scr, CysC, ad uII ( all P < 0.05 ). However, among the cirhotic patients, those with subclinica hepatorena syndrome ad hepatorena syndrome had slightly, but significantly, higher levels of CysC ad uII tha the patients with simple ciihosis ( both P < 0.05 ). For subclinical hepatorena syndrome, the AUCs of CysC ad uII were 0.91 and 0.867 ad the optimal threshoMs were 1.40 mg/L and 299.06 pg/ml respectively. For hepatorenal syndrome, the AUCs of CysC ad uII were 0.942 and 0.901 ad the optima thresholds were 2.22 mg/L ad 321 pg/ml respectively. Conclusion Enhaced levels of serum CysC ad uII can reflect hepatorenal damage in patents with decompensated liver cirhosis, even when serum creatinine levels are within normal range, suggesting that these two serum makers may have diagnostic value for detecting subclinica hepatorena syndrome and hepatorenal syndrome at early stages in this patient population. 23. Sema3A alleviates the malignant behaviors of gastric cancer cells by inhibiting NRP-1.

Abstract

Aims and Objectives: Semaphorin3A (Sema3a) is lowly expressed in the peripheral blood of gastric cancer patients, suggesting Sema3a may be involved in the progression of gastric cancer. Nevertheless, the specific role and the potential regulatory mechanism of Sema3a in gastric cancer is still obscure. Neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) has been reported to interact with Sema3a; herein, we intended to reveal the role and regulatory mechanism of Sema3a/neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) in gastric cancer progression., Methods: Cell transfection was carried out to regulate gene expression. CCK-8 and colony formation assays were applied to estimate cell proliferation. Scratch assay and transwell assay were conducted to assess the cell migration and invasion abilities. Angiogenesis ability was assessed using a tubule-forming assay. The expression of corresponding genes and proteins were detected by RT-qPCR and western blot, respectively., Results: Data showed that Sema3a was downregulated in gastric cancer cells and NRP-1 was upregulated. Sema3a overexpression repressed NRP-1 level in AGS cells. Overexpression of Sema3a inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion abilities as well as epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of AGS cells. Overexpression of Sema3a inhibited tube formation and reduced the expression of VEGFA/VEGFR2 in AGS cells. However, the effects of Sema3a overexpression on the malignant behaviors in AGS cells were partly reversed by NRP-1 overexpression. Additionally, Sema3a overexpression enhanced the inhibitory effects of Ramucirumab, an anti-VEGFR2 agent, on the proliferative, migratory, and invasive capabilities as well as EMT in AGS cells., Conclusion: In conclusion, Sema3a alleviates the proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis capabilities of gastric cancer cells via repressing NRP-1.
